Access Statement

At the Longmynd Hotel, we endeavour to look after the needs of all our guests. and ensure that everyone enjoys their time with us, whether they are staying overnight, having a drink in the bar, or sampling our menu in the dining room.

This access statement summarises our establishment and what we offer. The Longmynd Hotel is grade II listed and parts of the building date back to the early 1900s, which slightly limits us when trying to accommodate all disabilities - but we try our best. If you have any questions or queries about anything in our Access Statement please contact us by phone, e-mail, or in person and we will be more than happy to help.

Pre-Arrival

We are situated in the South Shropshire hills. An Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and renowned walking country, our hotel nestles in woodland overlooking Church Stretton. Church Stretton is a small town in Shropshire, England with an average population of 2789. It is approximately 13 miles south of Shrewsbury, the County Town. Church Stretton is easily accessible via the A49 trunk road and main line Manchester to Cardiff railway, linking to local shuttle bus services. Birmingham, Manchester and Liverpool airports are all within two hours travelling.

We welcome guests with dogs at a rate of £6.00 per night allowing up to two dogs per hotel room and in our self catering Lodges we are currently charging £20.00 per stay also allowing up to two dogs per lodge. We do not allow dogs in the Bar or restaurant area except for guide dogs.

We have ample private car parking located at the front of the hotel. The car park is level and illuminated at night. Check in is normally from 3pm, earlier arrival may be possible, please advise us accordingly. Guide dogs are welcome. Disabled Parking can be found to the side of the main entrance.

Main Entrance and Reception and Public Areas

The car park and main entrance to hotel are both on ground level. Our main door opens inwards and is 166 cm wide. The hotel reception is situated to the left of our main entrance. Our Bar, Restaurant and Functions rooms are also all located on the ground floor. There are fitted carpets everywhere in the hotel and from our lounge there is only a small step measuring 10 cm high down onto the corridor leading to our foyer. However this is not a problem as we have more than one method of access to these public areas which does not involve the usage of the step. Also at the entrance to one of our function rooms we have a step measuring 10.5 cm high which can also be accessed from an alternative ground floor access.

The front door remains unlocked until 11pm approx when the bar closes, to access the hotel building after this please make arrangements with reception on check in. There is a bell at the reception desk to summon assistance. Assistance with luggage is also available upon check-in and check out.

There is just one main stair case in the hotel giving access to all three floors. From the foyer there are 11 steps to a “half” landing, then to the left another 8 steps to a “half” landing, then to the left again another 8 steps to the landing of the first floor. Then from the first floor there are 9 steps to a “half” landing, to the left another 8 steps to a “half” landing then again to the left another 4 steps to the landing of the second floor. Then from the second floor to the third floor there are 9 steps to a “half” landing, then to the left another 8 steps to a “half” landing then to the left again just one step to the third floor landing. On average there is a 18 cm gap between each step. There is a wooden handrail which travels from Ground floor to third floor. There is also an elevator which can be found just beside the stair case in foyer also going to all three floors if required.

We have male and female toilets on the ground floor in the reception area and also a disabled toilet on the third floor which can be accessed by elevator or staircase. Please contact reception if you require access to this bathroom during your stay with us.
